On this full-day excursion you'll get to explore the region of the striking Montebello lakes as well as unspoilt Amatenango del Valle and the stunning Chiflon waterfall. We'll head for Amatenango, a Tzeltal village renowned for its pottery and whose women have been dedicated to making earthenware pots and ornaments for a thousand years. Next is El Chiflon Waterfall, one of the highest and most powerful in all Mexico. You'll be thrilled by the sight of the foaming water tumbling 120 metres down a nearly vertical limestone cliff, sending waves of mist across the hot dry landscape. However the highpoint of this trip has to be the Montebello Lakes. Situated on the border with Guatemala, these lakes are famous for their striking colours, which vary due to their different mineral contents, ranging from emerald and turquoise to dark green, and even purple and reddish black. There are 59 lakes in this region and we will have time to visit between 6 and 9 of the most beautiful before returning to the resort in the early evening.
