Begin with a visit to the Bund, Shanghai's waterfront, well known for its grand display of colonial- era architecture, where you'll enjoy the wonderful view of both sides of the Huangpu River. Then you will head over to the Yuyuan Garden, a classic creation of the Ming Dynasty. These manicured and beautifully landscaped gardens are awe-inspiring and provide a wonderful antidote to the busy city streets outside their walls. Streets such as the Shanghai Old Street which had its origins in the Qing Dynasty and retains some of the architecture of this era with upswept eaves and traditional use of colour with red poles, pink walls and black roofs. Afterwards you drive around in the former French Concession which still feels like the ‘Paris of the East’ with its Tudor mansions and tree-lined avenues.
