On this half-day excursion we'll visit one of Mexico's best secrets, the spectacular, unspoiled and rugged Sumidero Canyon with a brief visit to the colonial-era settlement of Chiapa de Corzo on the way back.
After being picked up from your hotel we will take you to the embarcadero where you will board a boat for your journey down the Grijalva River heading for the Sumidero Canyon. This trip down the mighty Grijalva takes you past towering granite walls, lush mountainside foliage, mesmerizing waterfalls and mysterious caves. The wildlife and flora of the canyon appear untouched by man. You will be amazed by the huge variety of plants; the canyon is also home to many species on the verge of extinction, such as the Morely crocodile and the spider monkey as well as threatened species such as the jaguarundi, ocelot, anteater and king buzzard.
The next stop is the historical city of Chiapa de Corzo with many reminders of its Spanish colonial past. There will be time for shopping at the town's many handicraft shops before we return to San Cristobal where we will arrive at around 2pm.
